Compassion Fatigue and Coping Strategies in Nurses

Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between
compassion fatigue and the coping strategies in nurses. It was
hypothesized that there would be a significant positive relationship
between compassion fatigue and types of coping strategies. Research
design was cross sectional. The present research was used convenient
sampling strategy. A sample of 60 nurses was selected from different
hospitals of Lahore. Professional Quality of Life Scale (Stamm, 2010) and
Coping Strategies Questionnaire (Kausar, 1997) to use the research
variables. Descriptive Statistic, Pearson Product Moment Correlational
and one way Anova analysis were used to compute results which showed a
positive significant relationship between compassion fatigue and types of
coping strategies. For achieving better performance of nurses and high
productivity the hospitals authorities should enhance about compassion
fatigue and describe the prevention methods to reduce it.
