Abstract
This research was conducted to find out a relationship among self-care
activities, adherence to treatment and rate of recovery in patients with
hepatitis C. It was hypothesized that there is relationship among self-care
activities, adherence to treatment and rate of recovery in hepatitis c
patients. Moreover, high rate of self-care activities and adherence to
treatment will predict high rate of recovery in patients with hepatitis c. The
correlational research design was used for this research. A sample of 100
patients with hepatitis c was drawn from three hospitals in Lahore. Health
related behaviour questionnaire by Kausar and Batool (2011) and Morisky
medication adherence scale by Morisky (2008) were used for assessment.
Person product correlation coefficient, logistic regression, paired sample
t-test and independent sample t-test was used to analyze the data. The
findings of the study show negative correlation were found
between self-care activities and rate of recovery. Positive correlation was
adherence to treatment and rate of recovery. The study findings also
revealed that high rate of adherence predicted high rate of recovery.
Moreover there is difference in the pre-post health related behaviours.
Furthermore, gender differences were seen in health related behaviours.
The findings have important implications for hepatitis c patients, doctors
and psychologist. It highlights the importance of self-care activities and
adherence to treatment which in turn may help improve their rate of
recovery.
