Abstract
Considering the questions that remain open about differences in school,
and maddrrasah students, this study aimed to investigate differences in
intellectual functioning, creativity and curiosity of government school and
madrrassah students. It was hypothesized that there is likely to be
difference in school and madrassah students on curiosity, creativity and
intelligence and there is likely to be a positive relationship between
intelligence, creativity and curiosity of school and maddrassah students. A
sample of 101 government school students (51 = boys, 50 = girls) with
mean age and standard deviation of 13.17 (.70) and 83 madrrassah
students (35 = boys, 48 = girls) with mean age and standard deviation of
12.57 (1.25) from different government schools and madrrassahs of
Lahore responded to a nonverbal test of intellectual functioning i.e SPM
by Raven (1972), Urdu translated Abedi Creativity Test of Abedi (1994)
and Curiosity Exploration Inventory by Kashdan (2009). Results on
intellectual functioning, creativity and curiosity test revealed significant
differences between school and madrrassah students, indicating that school
students are better in intellectual functioning, creativity and curiosity than
madrrassah students. Also a significant positive relationship was found
between intellectual functioning and creativity, however, no relationship
was found between intelligence and curiosity. It was concluded that if
madrrasah students are given more opportunities to explore and learn
utilizing their intelligence they could become more creative and curious.
Findings have practical implications in highlighting the need to improve
and focus intelligence, creativity and curiosity of maddrrassah students.
