Optimism and Quality of Life in Children with Epilepsy

Abstract

The present research investigated relationship between optimism and quality of life in children with epilepsy. It was hypothesized that there is a relationship between optimism and quality of life in children with epilepsy. It was also hypothesized that there are gender differences in optimism among children with epilepsy. It was further hypothesized that there are gender differences in quality of life among children with epilepsy. Correlational research design was used to assess the relationship between optimism and quality of life. Sample was drawn by using non probability purposive sampling strategy. The sample was composed of 70 children with epilepsy (Male = 35 and Female = 35) from different hospital of Lahore. LOT-R (Carver & Scheier 1989) andQOLIE-AD-48 (Cramer et al. 1999) was administered to each participant to assess the optimism and quality of life in children with epilepsy. Descriptive and Inferential Statistics were carried out for data analysis. Relationship between optimism and quality of life is assessed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Findings of the research revealed significant relationship between optimism and quality of life in children with epilepsy. Results showed there are no significant gender differences in optimism among children with epilepsy. Results also revealed there are no significant gender differences in quality of life among children with epilepsy.
